Tel Aviv, Israel – In a significant development reflecting the intensity of the ground and intelligence confrontations on the northern front, the Israeli army announced the successful capture of a member of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force during military operations deep inside southern Lebanon. This operation represents a major security breach given the high level of secrecy surrounding the movements of the party’s elite fighters.
Details of the field operation
An Israeli military spokesperson stated that soldiers from the 300th Brigade, an infantry unit of the 146th Division, located and identified the fighter while he was engaged in operational activity. According to the Israeli military account, the unit had been closely monitoring the individual’s movements. It was also determined that he was preparing to launch a surprise attack against Israeli military positions in the border area.
Surrender and intelligence investigation
An official Israeli military statement posted on its “X” platform (formerly Twitter) stated that the fighter, shortly after being surrounded and located by special forces, offered little resistance, choosing to surrender and was immediately arrested. The statement added that the detainee was promptly transferred to interrogation centers belonging to one of the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate’s (Aman) units. This was done to obtain field and tactical information regarding the deployment of the Radwan Force and the offensive plans prepared for the next phase.
Implications of the field escalation
Military observers believe that the arrest of members of the Radwan unit represents a strategic objective for Israel, given the advanced training these fighters receive and the sensitive missions entrusted to them, such as infiltrating the border and carrying out operations behind enemy lines. This operation comes at a time when the border areas in southern Lebanon are witnessing an exchange of fire and limited incursions, increasing the likelihood of a wider confrontation. Through this type of arrest, Israeli intelligence seeks to create a precise map of the network of tunnels and hideouts used by Hezbollah’s elite forces. It also aims to undermine their ability to take the initiative in any future full-scale confrontation.
