Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – On behalf of the Arab Group, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the Iranian attacks targeting the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Sultanate of Oman. It affirmed that these attacks constitute a flagrant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and a direct assault on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of these states.
Statement of the Kingdom before the Human Rights Council
This came during the participation of the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Majid bin Khuthaila, in the general debate under Item 2 of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The statement explained that these attacks come at a time when Arab states are exerting intensive efforts to mediate, de-escalate tensions, and promote political solutions. This makes the Iranian escalation unjustified and undermines efforts to achieve security and stability.
Violation of international law and a threat to regional stability
The Kingdom affirmed that the Iranian attacks constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and endanger regional security and international peace. It also stressed that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is a reckless and unacceptable act, threatening the safety of the people and residents of the targeted countries.
Solidarity and the right to self-defense
The Kingdom expressed its full solidarity with the targeted Arab states, affirming their inherent right to self-defense in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations. It also affirmed its commitment to taking all necessary measures to protect its people and their security. The Kingdom called upon the international community to support efforts aimed at preserving the stability of the region and protecting the sovereignty of its states.
