Brussels, Belgium – Matthew Whitaker, the US ambassador to NATO, affirmed that Iran’s acquisition of
a nuclear weapon is a “red line” for US President Donald Trump.
He also stressed that Washington will not allow Tehran to cross this threshold under any circumstances.
Speaking from NATO headquarters in Brussels, the ambassador said the US administration is closely monitoring Iranian nuclear activities.
He added that any progress on this issue constitutes a direct threat to regional
and international security,
as well as to the security of US allies in both the Middle East and Europe.

He indicated that Washington still prefers the diplomatic track,
but is keeping “all options on the table” should political efforts fail to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions,
emphasizing that Trump’s position on this matter is “clear and decisive.”
These statements come at a time of escalating tensions in the region.
This is occurring amidst stalled negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
Western concerns are also mounting regarding Tehran’s approach to acquiring nuclear weapons capabilities,
which has brought the issue back to the forefront of the international security agenda.
Observers believe that the US ambassador’s statements convey a dual message: reassurance to NATO allies
and a direct warning to Tehran against crossing the red lines drawn by Washington.
