Washington, DC – US Vice President J.D. Vance issued controversial warnings about the future of European and American national security. He suggested that the rise of leaders aligned with “political Islam ideology” to power in nuclear-armed nations like France and Britain is a “not unlikely” scenario within the next decade and a half.
Nuclear weapons in “dangerous hands”
In a lengthy interview with the British website UnHerd, Vance explained that American concern stems from the intersection of moral and cultural debate with direct national security interests. The US Vice President stated, “France and the United Kingdom possess nuclear weapons… If they allow themselves to be drawn into destructive ideas, they are allowing these weapons to fall into the hands of people capable of inflicting serious harm on the United States.”
When asked about the nature of this threat, Vance replied:
Guy de Vance pointed out that there are people with Islamist views who currently hold positions in European municipalities and local councils.
The US Vice President ruled out this transformation occurring in the next five years, but stressed that “15 years from now? Absolutely possible.”
The erosion of the “shared cultural foundation”
Vance expressed his concern about the erosion of the cultural and religious ties that bind the two sides of the Atlantic. He emphasized that military and academic cooperation between America and Europe rests on a “shared cultural foundation” that is now threatened.
It is worth noting that these are not Vance’s first remarks in this vein; he previously described Britain as a “nuclear-armed Islamic state.” They also echo similar rhetoric from President Donald Trump, who has accused London Mayor Sadiq Khan of attempting to impose ideological laws.
In line with US intelligence warnings
Vance’s remarks coincide with official warnings issued by the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, who stated that “Islamist ideology” poses a long-term threat to Western civilization.
Gabbard warned against attempts by political Islamist groups to push through ideological laws via political and legal channels within American cities.
Gabbard warned against efforts to create a system of governance that clashes with Western freedoms and uses “violence or any necessary means” to silence dissenters.
Context: These statements reflect a fundamental shift in the current US administration’s approach to immigration and integration in Europe. The emphasis on “cultural security” is highlighted as an integral part of the strategy to defend vital US interests.
