Cairo, Egypt – The Arab street is eagerly awaiting the outcome of the emergency Doha summit, which is being held amidst exceptional circumstances facing the region. Crises are intertwined and hot issues intersect from the Gulf to North Africa. The summit represents a new test of Arabs’ ability to formulate a unified position in the face of mounting challenges. This applies both to regional crises and to the Palestinian issue, which remains a top priority.

Pivotal roles for the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia

All Arab countries are participating in the summit. The UAE, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia have played pivotal roles, continuing their intensive diplomatic efforts. This aims to formulate a common Arab position that balances the imperatives of national security with those of regional stability. The UAE has been keen to push for a consensus that consolidates the concepts of development and stability. Meanwhile, Egypt emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian issue and the need to reach comprehensive political solutions to Arab crises. Saudi Arabia’s presence was striking, as it is a pivotal state in regional equations. It possesses political and economic weight capable of influencing decision-making.

A broad presence reflects a collective awareness.

The summit hosted by Doha also holds special significance. This is due to the broad participation at the leadership level, reflecting a collective awareness of the gravity of the current situation. The issues on the table cannot tolerate further postponement or evasion. Rather, they require decisive decisions that restore the Arab peoples’ confidence in the institutions of joint action.

European position on the summit

On the international level, European countries followed the summit with interest. These countries see it as an opportunity to reset relations with the Arab world, particularly regarding energy, migration, and the fight against terrorism. Although European capitals welcome any unified Arab position that contributes to regional stability, there is a keenness to emphasize that sustainable solutions cannot be separated from the paths of political dialogue and preventive diplomacy.

Aspirations of the Arab peoples

All eyes are on Doha today. The Arab street is awaiting the summit’s statements and decisions, hoping they will represent a significant step toward overcoming division. The goal is to reshape an effective and influential Arab role on the international scene.
