Damascus, Syria – Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa affirmed that the Shia component in Lebanon requires reassurance and dialogue. He indicated that communication with Hezbollah remains a strong option if it achieves Lebanon’s interests and serves Syrian strategic goals. These statements come amid intense regional efforts aimed at containing tensions and enhancing stability in the region.
Dialogue as the Inevitable Alternative to Confrontation
Al-Sharaa explained that dialogue with Hezbollah could be a realistic path if it serves the interests of the Lebanese state while simultaneously securing Damascus’s interests. He expressed his deep belief in the importance of dialogue among various parties, even in the presence of fundamental political disagreements, considering it the best and safest way to avoid destructive conflicts and wars.
The Syrian President stressed that the only alternative to dialogue is direct confrontation, which dictates an urgent need to keep communication channels open between all forces to maintain the fragile regional balance and stability.
Damascus’s Vision: Supporting Lebanese State Institutions
According to al-Sharaa’s statements, the current Syrian vision is based on the principle of re-supporting the Lebanese state and strengthening its official institutions. It also involves working seriously to find political solutions that gain the acceptance and consensus of the various Lebanese parties, directly contributing to enhanced political and security stability.
“We discussed with the French President a different and new approach to stop the war in Lebanon, and some statements regarding the US position on Lebanese developments were misunderstood and require clarification.”
Reassuring Lebanese Components and Avoiding Conflicts
Al-Sharaa sent a clear message that Lebanon should not remain trapped in a narrow corner between the choice of civil war or war with Israel. He emphasized that all Lebanese components, without exception, need to feel safe and stable, far from the atmosphere of ongoing escalation and confrontations.
The Syrian President concluded by affirming that Damascus wishes nothing but the best for Lebanon and its people. He considered that the current critical phase requires intensifying national dialogue efforts and supporting legitimate Lebanese state institutions, achieving security and stability for all Lebanese and sparing the country from sliding into further complex political and security crises.
