Conakry, Guinea – Guinea’s Supreme Court announced in a formal session the final results of the constitutional referendum held last Sunday, confirming the approval of the new draft constitution by 89.38%.

The court explained that the announced figures were completely consistent with the results previously published by the Ministry of Regional Administration on September 23, without any modifications.

Announcement ceremony

The results announcement ceremony was attended by several government members, heads of republican institutions, and members of the independent National Observatory for Referendum Supervision.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Foday Bangura read the ruling to the assembly, formally ending the controversy surrounding the electoral process.

Official figures:

  • Number of registered voters: 6,768,458 voters.
  • Number of voters: 5,951,807.
  • Participation rate: 86.42%.
  • Number of votes in favor: 5,135,951 (89.38%).
  • Number of negative votes: 610,376 (10.62%).

The importance of the referendum

Observers believe that the adoption of the new constitution represents a pivotal moment in Guinea’s political trajectory, giving the authorities a strong impetus to restructure state institutions. The opposition, which had previously questioned the integrity of the process, is eagerly awaiting its response.
