Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE Fatwa Council announced that the committee for sighting the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1447 AH will hold its meeting on Wednesday evening, March 18, 2026, corresponding to the 29th of Ramadan, in the capital, Abu Dhabi, chaired by Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the Council, and in the presence of Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Derei, Vice Chairman of the Council.

Crescent sighting mechanisms

The council explained that the committee will begin its work after the Maghrib prayer, where it will review the reports of the field monitoring teams and the results of the investigation received from the approved observatories in the country, in addition to studying the testimonies received from various regions, in accordance with the Sharia controls and approved procedures.

Call for community participation

The council called on members of the community to observe the crescent moon of Shawwal and to participate in registering their testimonies through the official channels designated for this purpose, within the framework of reviving the tradition of sighting the crescent and enhancing community participation in this religious event.

Official announcement of results

The council affirmed that the announcement of the sighting of the crescent moon of Shawwal will be made through official channels as soon as the committee concludes its deliberations, thus establishing a unified institutional methodology for proving the beginning of lunar months and enhancing confidence in the adopted procedures.
