  • Targeted Audit and Corporate Transaction Review
  • Safeguarding Financial System Integrity

Abu Dhabi, UAE — The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) announced an urgent special inspection into the operations of Banque Misr branches within the country following a US official statement raising money laundering concerns. The CBUAE confirmed that all operating branches remain fully subject to federal UAE financial regulations and supervisory frameworks. Furthermore, the regulatory authority ordered an in-depth audit covering the specific timeframe highlighted in the US report to evaluate systemic compliance.

Targeted Audit and Corporate Transaction Review

The CBUAE specified that the special inspection team will focus heavily on auditing transactions associated with the corporate entities identified in the US statement. In addition, inspectors are task-mandated to verify compliance with national Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) protocols. Consequently, the audit will rigorously assess the operational efficiency of internal control systems and sanctions-screening mechanisms at Banque Misr’s UAE locations.

Safeguarding Financial System Integrity

Meanwhile, the central bank reiterated that these supervisory procedures stem from its core mandate to preserve the stability and international reputation of the UAE’s financial sector. As a result, the CBUAE continuously reviews risk management frameworks across all licensed financial institutions to enforce compliance with international standards.

Ultimately, the urgent inspection aims to clarify the precise details of the flagged banking operations and evaluate compliance rigor. In conclusion, the findings of this targeted review will dictate any subsequent regulatory action necessary to maintain the integrity of the nation’s banking framework.
