Cairo, Egypt – The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States affirmed his full support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressing the importance of its continued humanitarian role in providing essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees. This comes amidst the escalating humanitarian challenges facing the Palestinian territories.
The Secretary-General called on the international community and donor countries to take urgent action to address the agency’s financial deficit. He warned that the ongoing funding crisis could directly impact its ability to provide education, healthcare, and social relief services to millions of beneficiaries.
He noted that supporting UNRWA is an international and humanitarian responsibility that cannot be abandoned. He emphasized that the agency plays a pivotal role in maintaining humanitarian stability within Palestinian refugee camps, especially given the difficult circumstances in the region.
The Secretary-General stressed the need to intensify Arab and international efforts to ensure the sustainability of UNRWA’s work. He affirmed that the continuation of its services is essential in alleviating the suffering of Palestinian refugees, as well as in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with international law.
