Manama, Bahrain – The Bahrain Defence Force General Command announced on Sunday that its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial attacks targeting the country. This comes amid an ongoing military escalation in the region.
Security alert and sirens
As a precautionary measure, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced earlier on Sunday that air raid sirens had sounded across the Kingdom. It urged citizens and residents to remain calm and immediately proceed to the nearest safe locations. The Ministry stressed the importance of obtaining information only from official channels to ensure their safety and avoid rumors. This comes as a continuation of the state of alert that began on Saturday, July 18. During that day, the country experienced repeated air raid sirens following a series of attacks launched by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Repelling attacks and confirming air defenses
Bahraini state television confirmed that the national air defenses successfully repelled the attacks. It also noted that both Bahrain and Kuwait have been subjected to repeated attacks by Iran since Saturday. These developments come amid growing fears of a wider military confrontation in the region.
Official condemnation of the “planned” attacks
For its part, the Bahraini Armed Forces General Staff issued a strongly worded statement describing the attacks as “hostile” and “premeditated.” The statement emphasized that targeting civilians and private property through the deliberate use of missiles and drones constitutes a blatant and flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
The authority indicated that Bahraini forces remain on high alert to counter any future threats. It also affirmed the Kingdom’s determination to defend its sovereignty and the security of its citizens in the face of these transgressions.
