New York, USA – The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, called for de-escalation and urged restraint from any actions or movements that could trigger a new round of violence in the country.

He also warned of the serious consequences of the deteriorating situation for civilians and the peace process.

A call for restraint

The UN envoy urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any steps

that could escalate tensions or undermine efforts to achieve stability.

He also stressed the importance of prioritizing dialogue over military options.

Warning of the repercussions of escalation

He stressed that any further escalation would have serious humanitarian and security repercussions.

These repercussions could deepen the suffering of the Yemeni people

and hinder international and regional efforts to advance the political process.

Supporting peace efforts

The UN envoy reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to continuing to work

with all parties and regional and international partners to support the peace process.

He also called for creating the appropriate conditions for resuming the political process

and reaching a comprehensive and sustainable solution that ends the conflict in Yemen.
