Caracas, Venezuela – The death toll from the two earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 4,490, with 16,740 injured, in one of the worst natural disasters to hit the country in recent years, as search and rescue operations continue in the hardest-hit areas.
Venezuelan authorities confirmed that civil defense and military teams are continuing their efforts to recover those trapped under the rubble, while relief operations face significant challenges due to the scale of the damage to buildings and infrastructure and the disruption of essential services in several regions.
Reports indicate that thousands of families have been left homeless after the collapse of houses and residential buildings. Temporary shelters have been set up to receive those affected and provide them with medical and food assistance, while humanitarian aid is being sent to the disaster-stricken areas.
A state of anxiety prevails among residents as aftershocks continue to be recorded. Authorities have urged citizens to adhere to safety guidelines and avoid damaged buildings, while local and international efforts continue to support rescue and relief operations and mitigate the disaster’s impact.
