Washington, DC – US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth asserted that Iran is “now paying the price for its attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.” He emphasized that the United States will not tolerate threats to one of the world’s most strategic waterways. He further stated that the US will continue to take necessary measures to protect freedom of navigation and the security of its partners.
Hegseth explained that the recent US military strikes were a response to attacks targeting commercial vessels and threatening international shipping. He affirmed that Washington will confront any attempts to destabilize the region or jeopardize international interests.
He added that US forces deployed in the region are at full readiness. He also explained that they continue to coordinate with allies to ensure the security of maritime routes and protect global trade. This comes amid the rapidly escalating military tensions in the region.
The US Secretary of Defense’s remarks come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. This follows an exchange of military strikes and growing fears of a wider confrontation, which could impact regional security and global energy markets.
