Ankara, Turkey – NATO announced a new investment program exceeding $40 billion aimed at bolstering member states’ capabilities against drone threats. This initiative is part of the alliance’s efforts to modernize its defense systems. Furthermore, NATO seeks to keep pace with the rapid evolution of modern warfare tactics.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of the NATO summit in the Turkish capital, Ankara, where alliance officials confirmed that the program includes the development of advanced systems for detecting and intercepting drones. The program also encompasses expanding training programs and enhancing the skills of forces specializing in operating these systems and responding to various aerial threats.
The plan includes increasing the number of personnel trained to operate and combat drone systems, as well as enhancing cooperation between member states in the areas of research, development and exchange of experiences. This contributes to building a more efficient defense system capable of rapid response. The Alliance is also working to accelerate the pace of purchasing and modernizing approved defense systems, through joint mechanisms that allow member states to obtain the latest military technologies. Thus, the Alliance ensures operational integration between NATO forces in various missions and operations.
The alliance emphasized that these investments are a response to the rapidly changing nature of security threats, particularly the increasing role of drones in many military conflicts. This reality necessitates the development of more advanced methods for detecting and intercepting them.
