New York, USA – Fourth of July celebrations in New York City turned into chaos and terror after a horrific mass shooting in the Coney Island neighborhood of Brooklyn left eight people injured, including four children, amidst the peak of the traditional fireworks displays that attract thousands of families.
Details of the accident and the health condition of the victims
According to ABC News, citing the New York Police Department, the incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. on Saturday. Fires were opened indiscriminately in a crowded area. The incident triggered a large-scale security and medical response, with emergency teams rushing to transport the eight injured to nearby hospitals.
Police confirmed that seven of the victims are receiving treatment and are in stable condition: two men (aged 37 and 33), a woman (aged 25), and four children aged between 6 and 14 (two boys aged 14 and 12, and two other boys aged 7 and 6). The eighth victim, a 21-year-old woman, remains in critical condition in intensive care.
Investigations are underway and a weapon was found in a “book bag”.
Despite an extensive search of the area, the New York Police Department has not yet announced any arrests. However, initial investigations led police to a backpack (book bag) found near the scene of the attack. The backpack contained a firearm, believed to be the weapon used. Forensics teams are currently collecting fingerprints and analyzing the weapon to identify the perpetrator.
