Caracas, Venezuela – The president of Venezuela’s National Assembly announced that the death toll from the two earthquakes that struck the country days ago has risen to 1,719, with 5,034 injured.
Meanwhile, rescue and relief operations continue amid a worsening humanitarian situation in the affected areas.
A continuous rise in the number of victims
The Speaker of the National Assembly confirmed that rescue teams continued
to pull victims from the rubble, raising the death toll to 1,719. The number of injured reached 5,034,
with search operations continuing for those missing in several affected areas.
He also indicated that the toll is likely to rise as field surveys continue.
Furthermore, the numbers may increase as emergency teams reach the areas most severely impacted by the two earthquakes.
Thousands homeless after the disaster
The Venezuela official explained that the two earthquakes have displaced 15,866 people.
In addition, thousands of homes and buildings were destroyed or damaged,
forcing thousands of families to flee their homes. They have since sought refuge in temporary shelters.
Authorities are working with relief teams to provide basic necessities for those affected,
including food, water, medical care, and shelter. This support continues as the extent of the devastation expands.
