Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi government confirmed that the anti-corruption campaign is proceeding according to a comprehensive vision aimed at establishing the rule of law and addressing the accumulated deficiencies in government performance.

She also stressed that protecting public funds represents a national responsibility that is not linked to people or political circumstances.

The rule of law is the foundation of reform

The Iraqi government spokesperson stated that the rule of law is a fundamental principle of the state,

and that anti-corruption measures are based on state institutions and applicable laws, independent of any other considerations.

He also affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing its reform plans and enhancing transparency and accountability.

He added that the government has adopted a comprehensive vision to address inherited shortcomings in government performance.

Therefore, it seeks to develop oversight mechanisms, improve institutional efficiency, and strengthen integrity across all sectors.

A new approach to combating corruption

The spokesperson explained that Iraq’s anti-corruption narrative differs from previous experiences,

as it relies on institutional measures aimed at recovering public funds, holding those involved accountable,

and preventing the recurrence of violations. He indicated that these measures enhance citizens’ trust in state institutions.

He noted that the government views combating corruption as

a fundamental part of its administrative and economic reform program.

He further explained that this contributes to improving public services and supporting the development process.

A special account for refunds

The government spokesperson revealed that the Prime Minister has directed the Ministry of Finance to establish

a dedicated account for depositing funds recovered as part of the anti-corruption campaign.

This aims to ensure transparency in the management of these funds and subject them to legal and financial oversight.

He affirmed that the government will continue to take the necessary measures to enhance integrity,

recover public funds, and apply the law to all those involved without exception.

He also noted that this supports the stability of the state and strengthens citizens’ trust in its institutions.

He further emphasized Baghdad’s commitment to continuing institutional reforms,

consolidating the principles of good governance, and protecting the nation’s resources.
