Washington, DC – The US Energy Secretary affirmed that the United States will ensure the continued flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz even if no agreement is reached with Iran.
He also emphasized that the security of vital waterways remains a priority for Washington and the global economy.
Ensuring the flow of oil through the strait
The Secretary explained that the United States possesses the capabilities
and procedures necessary to maintain maritime navigation and global energy supplies.
He also indicated that the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz will continue safely
and regularly despite the security challenges the region has witnessed recently.
He added that the stability of global energy markets requires maintaining
the smooth flow of commercial vessels and oil tankers through strategic waterways,
foremost among them the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
Washington rules out closing the strait
The US Energy Secretary affirmed that Iran is no longer capable of closing the Strait of Hormuz, as had been suggested in the past.
He asserted that security measures and international coordination in
the region have strengthened the international community’s ability to protect maritime navigation.
Furthermore, these measures contribute to ensuring the continued flow of trade and energy.
He indicated that any attempts to threaten freedom of navigation or disrupt the flow of oil supplies
will be met with measures sufficient to maintain the stability of global markets.
Consequently, these measures will prevent widespread disruptions in the energy sector.
Landmines delay the return to normal traffic
Regarding the delay in restoring oil flows to normal levels, the minister explained that the Iranian mines laid
in the Strait of Hormuz during the recent period of tensions were a major obstacle to the full resumption of maritime traffic.
He added that mine clearance and securing the waterways took time to ensure the safety of ships and oil tankers.
He affirmed that efforts are ongoing to fully restore normal flows and to enhance maritime security in the region.
