Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump demanded that Iran cease what he described as its support for proxies in the region.
He also warned that the United States might return to the military option if the Iranian leadership does not respond to US demands.
US demands to halt agent activities
Trump said in statements to Fox News that Iran must immediately stop the activities of groups associated with it in the region.
He considered that the continuation of these activities represents a threat
to regional stability and undermines efforts aimed at establishing a ceasefire and reducing tension.
The US President added that the Iranians must “stop their agents in Lebanon immediately.”
He pointed out that Washington is closely monitoring developments on the ground.
He also stressed that it will not hesitate to take additional measures if threats against American interests or its allies continue.
Warning of renewed strikes
The US president affirmed that his country might resume its attacks against Iran if Tehran does not comply with the stated conditions.
He also clarified that the US administration does not desire a return to military confrontation but is prepared to do so if necessary.
Trump indicated that the United States possesses the capability to implement its military options when required.
He emphasized that Washington’s objective is to ensure security and stability
and prevent any threat to international navigation or its allies in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is at the heart of the threats
In a related context, Trump spoke about the importance of the Strait of Hormuz to global trade and energy supplies.
He said the United States could seize control of the waterway if circumstances warranted it.
The US president added that any attempt to threaten freedom of navigation or disrupt shipping would be met with a strong response.
He also stressed that his country would not allow the security of strategic maritime routes to be undermined.
Trump’s remarks come at a time when the region is witnessing diplomatic activity and US-Iranian negotiations in Switzerland.
This is taking place amidst international efforts to maintain calm and prevent a return to military escalation between the two sides.
