Taiz, Yemen – Battlefronts in the Taiz and Al Hudaydah governorates have witnessed a new field escalation following attacks launched by Houthi militias. As a result, officers and soldiers from government and resistance forces have died. These deaths occurred amid fierce battles erupting across multiple combat axes.
Thwarting an Attack on the Al-Dhabab Front in Taiz
The Taiz Military Axis announced the thwarting of a surprise attack by Houthi militias on the Al-Dhabab front west of the governorate. This is one of the most prominent battlefronts surrounding the city of Taiz. The city has been under continuous siege for years. The axis detailed that the battles resulted in the death of Second Lieutenant Ayman Abdullah of the 17th Infantry Brigade while repelling the attack. Government forces successfully repelled the attackers and forced them to retreat after inflicting heavy casualties and material losses. Furthermore, the militias were forced to withdraw under heavy fire without achieving any territorial gains.
Deadly Clashes in Al Hudaydah
Meanwhile, fierce clashes erupted in the vicinity of the Hays district in the Al Hudaydah governorate. This happened following an infiltration attempt by Houthi elements toward strategic military positions near the contact lines. The National Resistance confirmed that these clashes resulted in the death of a company commander and two soldiers from the Zaraniq forces affiliated with the 13th Infantry Brigade. This happened while decisively countering the attack. In addition, stationed forces added that they detected the militias’ movements early and engaged them directly. They successfully thwarted the infiltration attempt and forced the attacking elements to flee.
Growing Fears of Truce Collapse
This serious escalation comes at a time when several Yemeni fronts are experiencing repeated violations and intermittent clashes. This happens amid growing warnings of the repercussions on the current de-escalation process. Observers of Yemeni affairs believe that the surge in military operations in Taiz and Al Hudaydah reflects a clear attempt by the Houthis to create field breakthroughs. Moreover, Houthis are trying to achieve new military gains on the ground. Fears are mounting that this ongoing tension could lead to the collapse of the fragile truce. Widespread confrontations could return across various fronts. This is happening despite international efforts aimed at solidifying the de-escalation.
