Abu Dhabi, UAE – 79 countries and the European Union have condemned the attack that targeted infrastructure near the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates. Consequently, these nations asserted in a joint statement that the attack constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and a threat to regional peace. Moreover, the statement emphasized that the use of drones in this assault increases the risk of escalation and endangers civilians. As a result, international parties warned of the potential environmental and radiological consequences of targeting such sensitive facilities. Thus, international protection for the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant emerges as a top priority to ensure regional security and stability.

International Support for UAE Safety Systems and Transparency

The signatories of the statement praised the rapid response and transparency of the UAE authorities in handling the incident. Accordingly, international parties commended the immediate notification of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding all developments and precautionary measures taken. In addition, the statement affirmed that the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant operates under the highest international safety standards under the direct supervision of competent regulatory bodies. Conversely, this stance reflects the international community’s confidence in the UAE’s ability to operate its nuclear facilities according to the highest global benchmarks. Consequently, the experience proved the efficiency of the Emirati system in containing risks and managing emergencies professionally.

UN-Backed Calls to Strengthen Protection of Critical Infrastructure

The joint statement called for an immediate cessation of all attacks against civilian targets, especially those designated for peaceful purposes like the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. On the other hand, the participants stressed the necessity for all nations to adhere to the UN Charter’s principles and criminalize the use of their territory to launch attacks against others. Consequently, the importance of strengthening international cooperation to secure nuclear power plants and raise emergency response readiness is paramount. Ultimately, this broad international solidarity reflects growing concern over the targeting of critical infrastructure. Accordingly, maintaining the security of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant remains a collective commitment to protect regional security and stability.
