Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli prosecution announced its intention to indict Tzachi Braverman, the former director of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu office.
This comes in connection with an investigation into the leaking of classified intelligence information during the war in Gaza.
Investigations into the leak of confidential information
The Attorney General’s office explained that the Attorney General and the State Prosecutor
are considering charges including “fraud, breach of trust, and obstruction of justice.”
However, the final decision remains contingent upon a legal hearing before a formal indictment is issued in Israel.
According to the prosecution, Netanyahu former aide learned in October 2024 of
a secret investigation into the leaking of highly classified intelligence material.
This material was later published in the German newspaper Bild.
The investigation indicated that the information, classified as “top secret,”
was gathered through sensitive intelligence channels and access to it was restricted to authorized personnel only.
Pressures, meetings, and controversial communications
The prosecution stated that Braverman contacted Eli Feldstein,
then Benjamin Netanyahu media advisor, after learning of the investigation.
He requested an urgent meeting with Feldstein at the Kirya military complex in Tel Aviv.
During the meeting, which took place inside Feldstein’s car, Braverman discussed the investigation
and inquired whether Feldstein was connected to it or to anyone close to the Prime Minister’s Office.
He indicated that he could intervene to stop it if so.
The case increases the political and legal pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu’s office,
amid ongoing scrutiny regarding the handling of classified information during the Gaza war.
Israeli media reports suggest that the leaked documents were intended
to bolster Netanyahu position that Hamas was not interested in a ceasefire agreement.
These reports indicate that the release of prisoners could only be achieved through military pressure, not political negotiations.
