Kyiv, Ukraine – In a review of the situation on the ground and the ongoing losses suffered by the warring forces, the Ukrainian military announced on Monday a new update to the toll of Russian military casualties since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war on February 24, 2022.
According to a statement issued by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the total number of Russian military dead and wounded has risen to approximately 1,356,940. The General Staff confirmed that 1,020 casualties were recorded in the past 24 hours alone.
Details of losses in military equipment
The General Staff published this update on its official Facebook page. The Ukrainian national news agency, Ukrinform, also reported on it, highlighting the massive destruction inflicted on the Russian arsenal. According to the statement, Ukrainian forces have destroyed 11,953 tanks and 24,608 armored fighting vehicles since the beginning of the war. In addition, they destroyed 42,687 artillery systems and 1,802 multiple rocket launcher systems. They also destroyed 1,396 air defense systems, rendering them ineffective against air attacks.
Destruction of the Air Force and Navy
Regarding air power, the statement reported the destruction of 436 warplanes and 353 helicopters. A staggering 310,245 drones were also recorded, reflecting the increasing reliance on drone warfare in the conflict. As for naval capabilities, the Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the neutralization of 33 warships and two submarines. This weakens Russian control in the surrounding seas.
Continuous logistical drain
The losses didn’t stop there; they also extended to the Russian forces’ logistical infrastructure. Kyiv announced the destruction of 4,687 cruise missiles and 99,000 vehicles and fuel tanks. In addition, 4,218 pieces of special equipment were destroyed.
These staggering figures, difficult to independently verify due to the lack of access to the theaters of operations, reflect the protracted nature of the war of attrition being waged by Ukrainian forces.
These figures come at a time of fierce fighting on the front lines, with both sides continuing their attempts to achieve breakthroughs.
While Ukraine continues to document these losses as part of its information and psychological warfare, these statistics remain an indicator of the heavy human and material cost being borne by both sides in a conflict that shows no signs of a peaceful resolution.
