Washington, DC – A US official told Fox News that Washington is making progress toward reaching an agreement with Iran. This comes as part of ongoing negotiations between the two sides on a number of contentious issues.

Conditional diplomatic advance

The official explained that the United States does not consider imposing fees in the Strait of Hormuz an “acceptable outcome,”

emphasizing the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and the security of energy flows in international waterways.

The official added that any easing of US sanctions on Iran would be contingent

upon Tehran making clear concessions regarding its uranium enrichment activities.

He also confirmed that this issue is one of the most prominent points of negotiation between the two sides.

He indicated that Washington sees the possibility of a breakthrough if Iran demonstrates flexibility on key issues.

This could pave the way for a more stable arrangement on the nuclear issue.

These statements come amid growing indications of relative progress in the indirect talks

between the United States and Iran, facilitated by regional and international mediators.

The Strait of Hormuz issue is at the heart of the debate

The US official emphasized that Washington rejects any actions that could disrupt navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,

given its strategic importance to global energy markets.

The strait is one of the most vital maritime chokepoints through which a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas exports pass.

Therefore, any tension there is of widespread international concern.

The US-Iranian negotiations are being closely followed by regional and international powers.

This interest stems from their connection to Middle East security, energy markets, and regional stability.

Observers believe that the announced progress could pave the way for broader understandings.

However, this remains contingent on resolving contentious issues,

primarily the uranium enrichment program and the mechanisms for lifting sanctions.
