Rabat, Morocco – Morocco and Liberia signed a new memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening joint security cooperation and expanding coordination between the two countries in addressing regional and international security challenges. This step reflects the growing bilateral relations between the two sides in recent times.
Officials from both countries confirmed that the agreement focuses on supporting the exchange of expertise and security information. It also includes developing training and capacity-building programs and enhancing cooperation in combating terrorism, organized crime, illegal immigration, and transnational crime.
Both sides emphasized the importance of building African security partnerships capable of addressing the growing challenges facing the continent. This is particularly relevant given the escalating risks associated with extremist organizations, human trafficking networks, and arms and drug smuggling.
Moroccan officials explained that the Kingdom continues to strengthen its presence on the African continent through development and security partnerships aimed at supporting regional stability. They also affirmed that security cooperation has become a fundamental element in safeguarding development and investment pathways within African countries.
Liberia stressed the importance of benefiting from Moroccan expertise in security training and institutional capacity building. It considered cooperation with Rabat a significant step in supporting efforts to maintain internal security and stability.
Observers believe the agreement is part of broader efforts to strengthen South-South cooperation within the African continent. This comes as many countries seek to expand security coordination mechanisms to address shared threats, moving away from complete reliance on international powers.
The memorandum of understanding is expected to pave the way for joint programs and regular security meetings between relevant institutions in both countries. This, in turn, will contribute to enhanced coordination and the exchange of expertise in the coming period.
