  • Baghdad Conducts Investigation Amid Regional Watch

Tehran, Iran — Tehran strongly condemned the drone attack targeting the office of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil, labeling the strike as “suspicious.” Consequently, Iranian authorities reiterated their firm rejection of targeting official institutions and leadership across the Kurdistan Region amid heightened regional friction. Furthermore, Tehran underscored its commitment to Iraqi stability and warned against attempts to provoke conflict.

Araghchi Denies Responsibility and Questions Motives

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clarified to his Iraqi counterpart that he possesses no information indicating drone launches from Iranian soil. Additionally, Araghchi expressed surprise over the occurrence, emphasizing that no justification exists to target Erbil given the strong relations between Tehran and the KRG.

These remarks follow Baghdad’s official request for Tehran to clarify its formal position regarding the assault. Consequently, Iranian diplomacy aims to distance the nation from the incident while affirming mutual political cooperation.

Baghdad Conducts Investigation Amid Regional Watch

Iran’s condemnation coincides with the Iraqi Prime Minister ordering an official investigative committee to track the drones’ launch origins and identify perpetrators. Additionally, Iraqi officials warned that targeting regional leadership sets a dangerous precedent for national security.

Finally, regional stakeholders await the formal outcomes of the Iraqi investigation to determine accountability. Ultimately, diplomatic dialogues between Baghdad, Tehran, and Erbil remain critical to mitigating potential escalation.
