New YORK, USA – António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed his deep concern about reports to the United Nations. Which indicated that drone attacks occurred on Sunday, causing a fire in an electric generator inside the vicinity of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

In an official statement issued on Monday morning, Guterres recalled his repeated warnings of the dangers of any further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. He considered the attack near the Barakah nuclear power plant to be a new reason calling on all parties to completely cease fighting and avoid any steps that would threaten regional stability.

violation of international law

Guterres stressed the need not to target civilian infrastructure, including nuclear power plants. Stressing that any attacks on nuclear facilities are absolutely unacceptable. It represents a violation of international law, calling for these attacks to be clearly condemned.

The Secretary-General stressed that these UN warnings come in light of the escalation of security tensions in the region. At a time when international concerns are increasing about the repercussions of targeting vital and sensitive facilities on regional and international security.
