Moscow, Russia – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement that its air defense systems destroyed 3,124 Ukrainian drones during recent operations. This indicates an escalation in the exchange of aerial attacks between the two sides on various battlefronts.
The ministry stated that its forces detected and thwarted repeated drone attacks. It also confirmed that Russian defenses engaged a “large number” of drones before they reached their targets. This comes as part of what it described as efforts to protect Russia’s strategic depth and vital infrastructure.
In the same context, field reports indicated that the Ukrainian city of Odessa was targeted by a series of strikes. This resulted in fires and damage to some sites, while Ukrainian authorities have not yet released an accurate count of the casualties. They merely stated that assessment and emergency response operations are ongoing.
The war front between Russia and Ukraine is witnessing a frequent escalation in the use of drones and long-range missiles. Both sides are increasingly relying on this type of attack to target military sites and strategic infrastructure. This comes amidst the continued political stalemate in peace negotiations.
Observers warn that the expansion of airstrikes into both Russian and Ukrainian territory could further complicate the military landscape and make reaching any near-term settlement even more difficult. This is especially true given each side’s adherence to its military and political positions.
