Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday that its security forces had successfully arrested Major General (Retired) Jaiz Hammoud al-Moussa. Al-Moussa served as Chief of Staff of the Syrian Air Force under Bashar al-Assad. This operation represents a significant security blow, reflecting the new administration’s determination to pursue figures from the previous regime.
The Syrian Interior Ministry confirmed that its counter-terrorism unit carried out a “precise” security operation that resulted in the arrest of al-Moussa. It described him as a “criminal” who served in the ranks of the “former regime.”
Al-Moussa is considered one of the most prominent military figures whose name was associated with air operations during the years of conflict. This makes him a valuable target for Syrian investigators.
It is worth noting that Syria has been undergoing a major transitional phase since December 8, 2014, following the overthrow of the Assad regime, which had ruled the country for nearly a quarter of a century.
Since then, security services have continued to pursue fugitive figures from the former regime. The aim is to ensure they do not escape legal accountability for the crimes they committed against the Syrian people.
