Tel Aviv – Israeli police have uncovered what officials describe as “malicious” tactics employed by Iranian intelligence to recruit spies within Israel. This strategy relies on exploiting social media platforms, along with sexual and financial blackmail, enabling Tehran to reach sensitive levels within the military establishment. This development highlights the intensifying silent intelligence war between the two nations.

Infiltrating the Air Force and Iron Dome System

The arrest of two Israeli Air Force members on espionage charges has triggered a high-security alert. Investigations revealed that approximately 50 suspects have been involved in over 20 espionage cases in the past 18 months. The breaches notably included a reserve soldier in the “Iron Dome” system, indicating Tehran’s focus on gathering precise intelligence to assist in identifying prominent human targets and planning future missile strikes.

Recruitment Nets: From “Job Hunting” to Blackmail

Captain Seffi Berger, of the “Lahav 433” major crimes unit, stated that Tehran infiltrates WhatsApp and Facebook groups dedicated to freelancers and job seekers. Tactics extend beyond financial lures to “honeytraps” involving adult sites, where compromising material is used to blackmail individuals into forced cooperation under the threat of public scandal. Iranian agents exploit the psychological and financial hardships of their targets to ensure compliance.

Illusions of Wealth and the Reality of the Cell

Security sources noted a bizarre disparity in payments; while one seven-member network received nearly $300,000, another soldier received as little as $21 for his cooperation and is now serving his second year behind bars. Berger warned that such blood money destroys lives rather than improving them. Meanwhile, the “Shin Bet” continues to hunt for other suspects still at large, launching intensive awareness campaigns to warn citizens against interacting with anonymous entities online.
