Jakarta, Indonesia – Indonesian authorities are continuing their intensive search for three people missing after the eruption of Mount Dukuno volcano in North Maluku province, amid warnings of continued volcanic activity and rising ash plumes in the surrounding area.
The Indonesian Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that rescue and emergency teams have deployed personnel and equipment to the vicinity of the volcano, where extensive search operations are underway in the affected areas for the missing individuals. Simultaneously, residents living near the mountain are being evacuated to safer locations.
Authorities confirmed that the volcano experienced a series of eruptions in recent hours, sending thick plumes of ash and smoke into the air, reducing visibility and hindering the movement of residents and rescue teams.
The local government urged citizens to follow safety instructions and stay away from the volcano’s perimeter, especially given the possibility of further eruptions or lava flows.
Officials indicated that geological monitoring teams are continuously tracking volcanic activity, emphasizing that the alert level has been raised in anticipation of any sudden developments that could threaten nearby villages and residential areas.
Indonesia is frequently struck by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions due to its location within the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most geologically active regions in the world.
