Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese Army Commander General Rudolph Haykal held an extraordinary meeting with US General Joseph Clearfield, head of the UN Monitoring Mission on Lebanon (UNMOVIC), at Beirut Air Base. The meeting addressed the security situation in Lebanon and the rapidly evolving regional developments.

Security situation and developments on the ground

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest security developments in Lebanon, in light of escalating tensions on the southern border. They also discussed growing concerns about the potential for regional conflicts to widen. The meeting focused on assessing the situation on the ground and mechanisms for maintaining stability and preventing further escalation.

The discussions emphasized the importance of supporting the Lebanese army during this critical period, as it is the cornerstone of maintaining internal security and stability. The need to provide the military institution with the necessary resources to enable it to fulfill its duties in the face of current challenges was also stressed.

International coordination and follow-up to the ceasefire agreement

The meeting also addressed coordination mechanisms between the Lebanese Army and the international parties involved in the cessation of hostilities agreement. The role of the oversight committee in monitoring developments on the ground and mitigating any violations that could affect overall stability in the country was also emphasized.

The statement issued by the Lebanese Army confirmed that the meeting was part of regular and extraordinary meetings aimed at strengthening security coordination and keeping abreast of regional developments, thereby ensuring the protection of stability in Lebanon.
