New York, USA – Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani said on the sidelines of a Security Council session that Iran is disrupting shipping operations in the Strait of Hormuz,
which has had direct effects on energy supplies and international maritime trade.
Disruption of navigation in a strategic corridor
Al-Zayani explained that what he described as Iranian interference in shipping traffic
within the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted the smooth flow of navigation in one of the world’s most important oil shipping lanes.
He noted that these developments are escalating tensions in the region and placing additional pressure on global energy security.
The minister added that any disruption to this vital artery leads to instability in oil markets
and heightened anxiety among both energy-consuming and exporting nations.
Call for international action
He stressed that the stability of navigation in the Strait is a prerequisite for ensuring the stability of the global economy.
Al-Zayani called on the Security Council and the international community
to take effective steps to guarantee freedom of navigation in international waterways
and to prevent any practices that could threaten maritime security or affect energy supplies.
These statements come amid growing international discussions
about the security of maritime routes amid escalating regional tensions.
