Tel Aviv, Israel – Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said that Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem is “playing with fire.” He warned that this fire “will burn Hezbollah and all of Lebanon.” This comes as part of a new escalation in rhetoric between the two sides.
Warnings to the Lebanese government
Katz explained that the Lebanese government should not “take shelter under Hezbollah’s umbrella.” He indicated that the continuation of this situation could lead to a wider escalation in the region.
He added that any escalation by Hezbollah would be met with a broad Israeli response.
These statements come at a time of heightened security tensions on the northern border between Israel and Lebanon. Despite international efforts to de-escalate the situation, there are concerns that the confrontations could escalate further.
Military operations in southern Lebanon
Field assessments indicate that Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon have continued recently.
In the same context, the Israeli army announced the destruction of more than 50 Hezbollah military sites in southern Lebanon in recent days. These operations, the army stated, were part of efforts targeting military infrastructure.
These developments coincided with ongoing international diplomatic efforts to contain the escalation. These efforts aim to prevent the region from sliding into a wider confrontation.
