Gaza, Palestine – The United Nations announced that nearly 300 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire went into effect.
It emphasized that children continue to pay the heaviest price for the ongoing violence
and deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Strip.
Respect for international humanitarian law
The United Nations confirmed that these figures reflect the scale of
the humanitarian tragedy faced by civilians, particularly children.
It called on all parties to fully commit to protecting civilians and respecting international humanitarian law.
It also demanded urgent action to prevent further casualties.
Continued violence exacerbates the humanitarian crisis
The United Nations stressed the need to ensure safe and sustained humanitarian access throughout the Gaza Strip.
It warned that continued violence is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis,
and that this situation threatens the lives of hundreds of thousands of children
and families suffering from severe shortages of food, medicine, and basic services.
