Berlin, Germany – The German government has warned of serious repercussions should any escalation lead to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital maritime chokepoints. It emphasized that global supply chains face a critical test amid rising tensions in the region.
The German Foreign Minister stated that any disruption to shipping in the strait would have immediate consequences for energy markets and international trade, given that a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas supplies depend on transiting this strategic waterway.
He added that Europe is closely monitoring developments and working in coordination with its international partners to prevent escalation. He stressed the need to maintain freedom of navigation and ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods.
He noted that successive geopolitical crises have exposed the fragility of some supply chains. This is prompting European countries to reassess their strategies, diversify their energy sources, and reduce their reliance on sensitive routes.
These statements come at a time of heightened tension in the region, raising concerns about far-reaching consequences for the global economy, particularly given any action that could disrupt one of the most vital arteries of international trade.
