New Delhi – India has criticized remarks by US President Donald Trump, in which he described the Asian nation as a “miserable place.”
India deemed these remarks “ill-considered and inappropriate.”
Angry official response
Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the remarks did not reflect the reality of India-US relations.
He emphasized that the relationship is based on mutual respect and shared interests.
Trump’ comments appeared in a post on the Truth Social platform.
In the post, he shared comments from a podcast host who criticized US immigration policies.
He also addressed Indian immigrants working in the technology sector,
including accusations related to the job market and language.
Internal US criticism
The remarks sparked reactions within the US,
with Congresswoman Amy Bera describing the post as “offensive and ignorant.”
Civil society organizations also expressed concern about the rise of racist rhetoric.
These developments come ahead of a planned visit by the US Secretary of State to India.
There are concerns that the remarks could strain bilateral relations,
which have been tense recently over issues of immigration and trade.
