Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced in an urgent statement today that four people were killed in two Israeli airstrikes targeting separate areas deep inside southern Lebanon.
This has raised tensions on the ground to unprecedented levels.
This escalation comes amid ongoing exchanges of fire across the border.
Details of the air strike
The Ministry of Health’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center reported
that Israeli aircraft struck a house in a border town, killing two people instantly.
A second strike targeted a vehicle in a nearby area, killing two more.
Rescue and civil defense teams rushed to the targeted sites to recover
the bodies and transport them to nearby hospitals.
Movement was severely hampered by the heavy presence of reconnaissance aircraft.
Repercussions of the field escalation
The recent airstrikes caused significant material damage to private property and infrastructure.
The force of the explosions also damaged power grids and nearby buildings.
These developments come amidst a series of air attacks launched by the Israeli army,
which claims to be targeting military infrastructure.
However, Lebanon field reports confirm that the attacks are now targeting populated areas,
leading to the displacement of hundreds of families in new waves towards the city of Tyre and the surrounding mountainous regions.
Official stance and international warnings
For its part, the Lebanese government continues its diplomatic efforts to press for a halt to Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
The government also warns against the potential for the situation to escalate
into a full-blown war with dire consequences for regional stability.
Meanwhile, armed groups in southern Lebanon are committed to responding
to these attacks by targeting Israeli military positions in the Galilee.
On the other hand, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) calls on all parties to exercise restraint
and return to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to ensure the safety of civilians.
