Washington, DC – The Pentagon announced a naval operation in the Indian Ocean that resulted in the interception of an oil tanker suspected of having ties to Iran. This move comes amid escalating naval operations in the region related to tensions with Tehran.
interception of an oil tanker
The Pentagon explained that US forces seized the oil tanker “Majestic X,” which was carrying a shipment of Iranian oil.
It indicated that the operation was carried out via an airborne assault using US helicopters onto the ship’s deck.
The US Department of Defense confirmed that these actions are part of what it described as global maritime law enforcement operations.
It stated that the goal is to disrupt illicit networks and prevent any material support for Iran, emphasizing that these operations will continue wherever they are found.
Continued escalation in Hormuz
This development comes amid escalating maritime tensions in the Strait of Hormuz,
following Washington’s earlier announcement of mine-clearing operations and enhanced control over shipping lanes.
This also comes amid mutual accusations between the United States and Iran regarding attacks on commercial vessels.
A video of the operation was published
According to the Pentagon, a video has been released documenting the moment of the interception.
The footage shows US forces boarding the tanker as it was stopped at sea.
This operation is seen as part of a series of US military and economic measures
aimed at tightening the noose on Iranian oil shipments.
Meanwhile, concerns are rising about a wider confrontation in the region.
