Abu Dhabi – The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the resumption of in-person education for all students, academic, and administrative staff in the UAE. Life is set to return to campuses across all public and private institutions starting Monday, April 20, 2026. Furthermore, this decision follows the completion of all necessary preparation and rehabilitation plans to ensure a safe learning environment. Accordingly, in-person education in the UAE represents a fundamental step toward restoring full academic momentum and developing students’ practical skills. In this regard, the Ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to approved standards to ensure the stability of the educational process.
Comprehensive Readiness of Buildings and Updated Safety Procedures in Universities
The Ministry confirmed that the decision for in-person return is primarily based on the total readiness of buildings and educational facilities across the country. Obviously, relevant authorities have updated security and safety procedures and enhanced the efficiency of academic and administrative cadres during the past period. As a result, universities will welcome their students within a stimulating environment that supports innovation and outstanding academic achievement. In addition, in-person education in the UAE contributes to enhancing direct interaction between professors and students, thereby raising the quality of educational outcomes. However, technical teams continue to monitor facilities periodically to ensure the sustainability of operational safety standards.
Flexibility in Teaching Patterns and Implementation of Hybrid and Virtual Models
The Ministry explained that some private higher education institutions will enjoy sufficient flexibility in choosing the teaching models that suit them. Certainly, these institutions can apply hybrid learning or distance learning systems when needed, according to specific academic regulations. Accordingly, this flexibility takes into account the readiness of each institution individually and the requirements for the organized implementation of curricula. On the other hand, this policy aims to ensure that the educational process is not affected by any emergency circumstances that may arise in the future. In the same context, in-person education in the UAE remains the preferred option to maximize the benefit of advanced laboratories and classrooms.
Continuous Monitoring of Operational Plans and Ensuring Smooth Academic Return
The Ministry stressed the continued close coordination between educational institutions and competent authorities to monitor the implementation of in-person return plans accurately. Obviously, the educational sector possesses full readiness for a smooth transition to alternative learning patterns in cases of extreme necessity. As a result, the state guarantees the continuity of the educational journey with high efficiency and non-stop flexibility under any pressures. In addition, commitment to operational plans strengthens the confidence of parents and students in the academic system’s ability to face challenges. Ultimately, in-person education in the UAE will remain a pillar of the civilized and intellectual progress that the state seeks to establish as a leading global model.
