Moscow, Russia – Moscow urged both the United States and Iran to avoid any escalatory steps during the ongoing talks in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. It also stressed the importance of keeping channels of dialogue open at this sensitive stage.

The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that any further escalation could hinder diplomatic efforts. Furthermore, it explained that such escalation could lead to uncontrollable repercussions at the regional level, especially given the interconnectedness of political and security issues related to the negotiations.

Moscow emphasized that political solutions remain the best option for addressing the differences between Washington and Tehran. It called on both sides to demonstrate greater flexibility and work towards bridging their differences to ensure a degree of stability.

This Russian appeal comes within the context of its traditional role as a mediator in international crises. It seeks to maintain lines of communication with various parties, enabling it to play a mediating or supportive role in de-escalation efforts.

Observers believe that the Russian warning reflects genuine concerns about the negotiations faltering or sliding into more complex situations. At a time when regional and international pressure is mounting to reach understandings, there is hope for reducing tensions and paving the way for sustainable solutions.
