Tehran – Iran – Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, announced on Tuesday that an envoy of Antonio Guterres is on the way to the capital Tehran to hold consultations with senior Iranian officials, as part of efforts aimed at halting escalation in the region.
Consultations on Ending the War
Iravani stated that Iran seeks to end the ongoing war, stressing the need for any future agreement to include real guarantees to stop the conflict and maintain regional security and stability.
UN Mediation Role
The ambassador noted that the UN envoy’s visit aims to provide political and diplomatic support and to find a consensus formula that would allow progress in negotiations between the concerned parties, ensuring de-escalation and the protection of civilians.
Importance of Implementation Guarantees
Tehran emphasized that any agreement must be accompanied by clear and binding guarantees to ensure full compliance with the cessation of hostilities and prevent any potential violations, within the framework of international law and UN resolutions on maintaining international peace and security.
