Basra – Iraq – Angry protesters stormed the Kuwaiti consulate in the city of Basra on Tuesday, in protest over the deaths of three people following a rocket attack launched from the direction of Kuwait, according to Reuters.

Fallout of the Rocket Attack

Sources stated that the rocket attack resulted in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to several others, sparking widespread public anger in Basra. This led protesters to demonstrate in front of the consulate and storm it in protest of what they considered a failure to protect national security.

Official Reactions

Authorities in Kuwait did not immediately comment on the incident, while authorities in Iraq called for restraint and the launch of an urgent investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack, emphasizing the importance of maintaining bilateral relations and avoiding escalation.

Warnings of Escalation

Local officials warned that ongoing tensions and protests could lead to further confrontations, stressing the need for calm and dialogue between all parties to ensure the security of the consulate and the protection of civilians, and to address the causes of public anger promptly to prevent further escalation in the region.
