  • Regional Realignment and Diplomatic Friction

Washington, D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the civil nuclear arrangement between the United States and Saudi Arabia will be approved, but remains strictly contingent on Riyadh formally joining the Abraham Accords.

Normalization Condition and Non-Enrichment Mandate

Writing on Truth Social, Trump clarified that the proposed cooperation framework between the U.S. Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia applies strictly to non-military applications, emphasizing that “there will be no enrichment of material!” under the agreement.

The President’s intervention follows the signing of a bilateral civil energy agreement by U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, which provides a framework for civilian nuclear power generation using American technology and has been submitted to the U.S. Congress for review.

Regional Realignment and Diplomatic Friction

By directly conditioning the energy agreement on the Abraham Accords, Washington seeks to leverage high-tech nuclear cooperation to advance broader diplomatic normalization between Israel and Arab nations.

However, Saudi Arabia has consistently maintained an unaltered diplomatic posture, reiterating that formal recognition of Israel remains strictly tied to a credible roadmap toward an independent Palestinian state. Analysts note that Trump’s newly asserted condition introduces a complex dynamic into ongoing bilateral security and energy negotiations.

President Trump’s explicit linking of the civil nuclear pact to the Abraham Accords underscores Washington’s intent to leverage energy technology for regional normalization, setting up a key test against Saudi Arabia’s steadfast policy on Palestinian statehood.
