Washington, United States – US President Donald Trump announced that approval of the ongoing civilian nuclear cooperation agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia would be conditional. Approval will require Riyadh joining the Abraham Accords for normalizing relations with Israel.
Trump said in a statement published on his platform that the civilian nuclear agreement being prepared between the US Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia is limited to peaceful and non-military uses. He stressed that it will not include uranium enrichment.
He added that the agreement “will be adopted, but remains entirely contingent on Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords,” noting that the United States does not oppose the establishment of civilian nuclear energy facilities. Furthermore, these must not be intended for enrichment.
