Aden, Yemen – A violent exchange of fire took place this afternoon, Friday, in the “Nuqtat al-Irsal” area, west of the city of Ash-Shihr in Hadramawt Governorate, eastern Yemen, between a security force affiliated with the “Homeland Shield Forces” and a group of local gunmen. The clash resulted in casualties on both sides.

Details of the incident

Local sources and eyewitnesses reported that clashes erupted after an armed group (believed to be affiliated with local tribes) attempted to pass through the security checkpoint with their weapons.

The sources stated that a verbal altercation began when soldiers tried to prevent the weapons from passing through or to confiscate them. The situation then quickly escalated into a direct armed confrontation.

Initial tally

According to initial field reports, the victim was either part of the armed group (or a passerby who happened to be in the area). Two to three people were also injured, including one or two soldiers from the “Homeland Shield” force. One of the injured was described as being in critical condition.

Field procedures

Following the incident, ambulances rushed to the scene to transport the injured to nearby hospitals, while security forces cordoned off the entire area. Authorities remain at the scene to conduct the necessary investigations, control the situation, and prevent any further repercussions.

Context of tensions

This incident comes amid heightened security tensions in Hadramawt recently. This coincides with military changes and the deployment of new combat units in the province. This situation has resulted in frequent clashes at checkpoints. No official statement has been issued by the “Homeland Shield Forces” command or the local authorities in Hadramawt to clarify the full circumstances. The identities of the victims have also not yet been released.
