Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced today the arrest of a former Syrian army armament official during the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad, on charges of involvement in serious crimes against civilians.

According to an official statement issued by the ministry, the operation was carried out in coordination between the Internal Security Directorate in Masyaf and the Counter-Terrorism Branch in Hama Governorate. The operation resulted in the arrest of Kinan Ali Bilal. The statement also described him as a volunteer in the former regime’s 85th Brigade.

He served as the head of the armament and ammunition department in Battalion 425, part of the 85th Brigade. He also held command and military positions in the al-Ghab region of Hama Governorate. The charges against him include committing serious crimes against civilians during military operations in which he participated, and continuing to serve in the regime’s ranks until its collapse.
