Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced today the arrest of a former Syrian army armament official during the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad, on charges of involvement in serious crimes against civilians.

Details of the process

According to an official statement issued by the ministry, the operation was carried out in coordination between the Internal Security Directorate in Masyaf and the Counter-Terrorism Branch in Hama Governorate. The operation resulted in the arrest of Kinan Ali Bilal. The statement also described him as a volunteer in the former regime’s 85th Brigade.

Criminal record and duties

Initial investigations by security services revealed important information about the detainee’s activities. He served as the head of the armament and ammunition department in Battalion 425, part of the 85th Brigade. He also held command and military positions in the al-Ghab region of Hama Governorate. The charges against him include committing serious crimes against civilians during military operations in which he participated, and continuing to serve in the regime’s ranks until its collapse.

legal procedures

The Syrian Interior Ministry confirmed that the detainee’s initial confessions had been documented, and he was referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the investigations and take deterrent legal measures against him. This operation is part of a series of security actions launched by the Syrian authorities to pursue individuals involved in human rights violations during the past years of conflict.
