Paris, France – Sources close to the French presidency at the Élysée Palace confirmed the authenticity of the private letter published by US President Donald Trump, which was sent to him by French President Emmanuel Macron. The sources indicated that its content accurately reflects the official position of Paris. The Élysée Palace clarified in a statement that the letter is entirely genuine and unambiguously attributed to the French president. Furthermore, those close to Macron emphasized that the leak of the letter serves the French position and does not embarrass him. They considered it proof of the French president’s commitment to the consistency of his political discourse. He maintains the same policy in public as in private, and defends the same principles in public forums and private correspondence without duplicity or contradiction.

Regarding the Syrian file, sources indicated that the message clearly reflected the French vision based on joint action with the United States to preserve Syria’s unity and territorial integrity. It also affirmed France’s commitment to the ceasefire framework. The message further clarified France’s pledges to its allies in the ongoing fight against ISIS, considering this part of a shared international responsibility in combating terrorism. On the Iranian front, the message reiterated France’s position advocating for respect for fundamental freedoms and human rights. It also emphasized Paris’s support for the women and men struggling for these rights within Iran, considering this issue an integral part of the dialogue with Tehran.

Regarding the controversy surrounding Greenland, the letter conveyed a firm French position affirming that respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states is a non-negotiable principle. At the same time, it emphasized France’s commitment to its role as an ally within NATO and its dedication to contributing to security and stability in the Arctic region. The French presidency confirmed that Macron intends to leverage France’s G7 presidency this year to promote dialogue and international cooperation. This comes at a time of escalating tensions and polarization on the global stage. The sources concluded by emphasizing that the letter’s release is intended to demonstrate the consistency and clarity of French diplomatic positions to international partners and the public.
