Copenhagen, Denmark – Political voices in Greenland have grown louder in their rejection of any American attempts to annex it. They also reject increasing Washington’s influence over its territory.
This comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has expressed interest in buying the strategic island in the North Atlantic.
Greenland’s local parties stressed their right to self-determination free from any external pressure.
They stressed that citizens prefer to preserve their identity and political independence, away from any American economic or military pressure.
A Greenland party leader said: “We are not for sale, and we want to live freely and maintain
our special place on the international map. Any outside interference would be a challenge to our popular will.”
It is worth noting that Greenland enjoys broad self-governance within the Kingdom of Denmark.
However, it holds great strategic importance due to its location and natural resources.
This makes it a constant focus of international attention, especially from major powers such as the United States.
